Pupil Voice

Pupil voice is at the heart of our ethos at Gracemount Primary School and we aim to provide as many opportunities both in and out of the classroom for children to play an active role in their learning. Therefore, we have a number of different groups and committees our pupils can get involved in during their time at Gracemount Primary School.

Pupil Council

Our Pupil Council consists of one pupils from each of our P4-7 classes, who are elected by their classmates to represent them. The committee meet regularly throughout the year to discuss the operational issues within the school as well as the larger strategic direction. During each meeting, council members are invited to bring any issues, ideas or questions from their class to the meeting to be discussed. This may then result in an new focus or direction for the committee for that term. However, the committee are also asked to share their opinions or ideas on our learning & teaching takes place within the school, they have also evaluate in the learning environments and support the Head Teacher with interviews.

Rights Respecting School Group

We have an active Rights Respecting School Pupil Group who recently played an active role in helping us achieve our Silver Award. The committee are now working hard as they begin our journey to achieving Gold and are continuing to promote and highlight the importance of children’s rights both within school, at assemblies and in class, and with the wider school community, through our newsletters and social media communication.

1 in 5 group

The 1 in 5 group is a small group of around 5 or 6 pupils ranging from P5-7 who have a really keen interest or passion for supporting pupils living in poverty. This group changes each academic session and any interested pupil is invited to apply using our application form. The group meet once a fortnight throughout the year, to talk about child poverty awareness and look at how we as as school can support them better

We focus a lot on the impact of poverty on children and how that can effect a child’s ability to learn. We talk about the cost of the school day and what actions we can undertake to make it achievable for everyone.

The group have visited the local food bank, baked and facilitated their own bake sale to raise funds for our school. The group have also been instrumental in writing to bigger organisations and company’s asking and often suggesting ideas in which they can support our school and children.

Equalities Group

A group being established this academic session is our Equalities pupil group which will be lead by Mrs Kirkmali. More information about this will come out this term.

Digital Leaders

Digital literacy is embedded into learning at all stages within Gracemount Primary School. However, to help support teachers and classes to be as up-to-date and creative as possible with the resources we have available, we have a small team of P6 & P7 digital leaders. Our digital leaders are trained on all the new and exciting apps and equipment we have within school to allow them to be able to go into classes to support them with these. The group also work hard to promote the safety and sensible use of technology to the rest of the school at assemblies, in classes and through our school newsletters and social media communication.

Any pupil in P6 or P7 who feel they have an interest or talent for technology are invited to apply via an small application form and short interview to become a digital leader.
