The children have been learning that Christmas isn’t all about Santa and presents. We have been finding out about the Nativity story and discussing how this time of year is an important celebration in Christian peoples’ lives. We had the pleasure of watching the Primary 2 classes present the Nativity assembly. The class have been discussing the activities people do to prepare for Christmas and have shared their favourite part of the Christmas holiday. The children have been learning about and taking part in the celebrations and customs in school at Christmas time such as decorating the class tree, learning Christmas songs and singing at the school carol concert, making decorations and cards, attending the church service and meeting Santa at the class party. We also had a lot of fun playing in Santa’s workshop in the classroom. We have been very busy elves printing wrapping paper, writing cards and gift tags and wrapping presents.
P1 has enjoyed visiting the walled garden. We met Richard who looks after the walled garden and who took us for a tour. Through our tour of the walled garden we were given the opportunity to sample some petals – that were a little bit spicy – and some raspberries but we made sure that they we picked the red ones. Richard showed us a compost heap and we learnt about the importance of these and what eventually happens to a compost heap. On our seocnd trip to the walled garden to meet Richard we made a massive den in the woods. The only materials Richard gave us was some string and some tarpaulin. For the rest of the of the den we worked together to find natural materials, such as branches, to build things like walls and an entrance. Our den was big enough to fit the whole class in. We love the walled garden!!
